Mindful Parents & Educators (MP&E) is a focus training program meant especially for caregivers of young children, but potentially beneficial for anyone. This program has three goals to improve our own happiness, to improve relationships with children in our care, and to give a broad and useful framework for sharing mindfulness practice directly with children.
The course introduces four core mindfulness techniques to build individual practice that can focus and adjust our attention to adapt to life in a more optimal way. Each section will take these techniques through a continuum of practice situations and applications in the context of teaching and parenting in classrooms and home environments.
Anchor yourself in the sights, sounds, and touches of your environment
Untangle the thinking mind and emotional body to dissolve reactivity
Tune in to the tranquil sides of your senses
Improve your self, improve your surroundings
As you learn these focus techniques and habituate yourself to using them in the presence of your children, you will start to notice more and more micro-achievements of our top three goals. Over time, these add up to the macro-achievements of making ourselves ever happier and more compassionate caregivers, and helping our children develop their own awareness powers!
“This class was transformative! At a time in my life, with two kids under 4, I knew something needed to change and this class came to the rescue. I was struggling with a lot of newly developed anger that I hadn’t experienced before, it was new territory for me. This class helped me focus on things with a whole new perspective. Charlie is a fantastic, clear instructor and I left each class feeling renewed.”
“My own practice directly inspires and motivates new ideas for how I can actively incorporate MP&E techniques into early childhood pedagogy. When we all work together to heighten our individual and collective awareness in this way, our skillful togetherness deepens and the classroom community is strengthened.”
“The course was an introduction to mindfulness to me. It jumpstarted my meditation practice, which has helped feel more aware and grounded every day. One huge benefit has been increased patience and connection with my kids. My daughter and I practice mindful activities often, from mindful eating to mindful walks where we focus on listening and looking. It’s a great way for us to spend time together.”
“The class has definitely helped me to be more present and less reactive, both with the kids that I work with as well as my own kids who are older. It has definitely benefited me in my daily life.”
